Triton Algae Innovations is a San Diego based biotechnology company that produces recombinant human and bovine colostrum and milk proteins in eukaryotic green algae. Built on over 25 years of algae research at The Scripps Research Institute and UC San Diego, Triton’s IP-protected technology platform is optimized for low-cost and commercial-scale production of complex orally deliverable colostrum proteins such as osteopontin (OPN), which has well-documented beneficial effects on both infants and adults. These proteins have been demonstrated to be safe and biologically active, and have proven positive effects in areas such as gut health, bone strength and density, oral health, and cognitive development. Importantly, OPN and other proteins occur naturally in human breast milk, but are absent from infant formula. Triton intends to provide these proteins for the growing global infant formula market.
